In your September 19th article about “offset spending”, Indiana Republican Congressmen Mike Pence said “we can’t allow a catastrophe of nature to become a catastrophe of debt for our children and grandchildren.” We already have a catastrophic debt for our children and grandchildren, caused by Republican “borrow and spend” policies.
They insist on making tax cuts that favor the rich permanent, while letting some of them profiteer, first from a war, and now, from a natural disaster. Yet, they want to cut spending that benefits lower and moderate income tax payers who’s children and grandchildren are fighting the war.
No one talks of cancelling recent tax breaks for oil companies with huge profits, while middle and lower income citizens pay huge increases for gas and heat. It is time for Republican leaders to tell the truth, and for corporate and wealthy interests to pay their share of our country’s burdens.
