"Just Say No" to Alito

When George Bush Senior ran for President, he said “read my lips”. When George W ran for President, he should have said “read between the lines”.

Judge Alito should not be confirmed, because he supports increasing the power of the Executive branch at a time when our current President believes he is above the law.

The President thinks he is above the law because we are in a war, a war that he defines as perpetual.

He claims Iraq is the central front of this war, but we know he planned to invade Iraq before 9-11. We know his Administration ignored warnings of a 9-11 type attack, and when it happened, they wanted to bomb Iraq. They used the horror of 9-11 to further a war profiteering agenda. At least, when his father ran for President, he said “read my lips”. When George W ran for President, he should have said “read between the lines”.

Judge Alito could tip the balance of the Supreme Court for generations. He would join Thomas, Scalia and Roberts in supporting an imperial Presidency.

They would give deferential treatment to multi-national corporations at the expense of our environment, our health and our ability to earn a living wage under safe conditions. They would further erode our civil liberties and our right to privacy, and seek to overturn Roe v Wade, a decision supported by a majority of Americans.

When our current President is so steeped in arrogance, deception, incompetence and possible corruption, he should not be allowed to change the long term composition of the Supreme Court, especially when it would support his autocratic agenda.
