Shame on the US Senate Leadership
Mood:  d'oh
Now Playing: Neil Young's latest recording
Topic: Shame on the President

President Bush recently had a positive rating in a poll. 34% agreed that he is our worst post World War II President. The runner up was Richard Nixon with 17%. Not surprising, both have engaged in divisive and deceptive rhetoric, excessive secrecy, and an abuse of power.

Now the President will try to salvage his base with a baseless policy. He is promoting a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage. Such an amendment is an affront to states rights, it discriminates against a specific group of Americans, and it is unlikely to get a majority Senate vote, let alone the 2/3rds needed.

Shame on the US Senate leadership, for wasting the Senate’s time on a futile and flawed policy, instead of dealing with the critical issues of our time. Shame on the President for trying to re-capitalize on a tired wedge issue, in order to mask his failure in leadership.
